Last of the real ones

“I was just an only-child of the universe and then I found you. And then I found you” - Last of the real ones by Fallout Boy

I’ve been listening to this song the past few days and to me it’s still the sheithiest song out there. 😭 I love it so much.

I think ppl need to stop dismissing films like “crazy rich asians” and “to all the boys I loved before” as “cool for representation but just rom com fluff.”

Because like damn guys, sometimes I just don’t wanna deal with super deep narratives about identity and misogyny. Sometimes I just can’t handle the secondary trauma of movies like the joy luck club and maos last dancer. Sometimes I just need to escape into a happy place of light humor and hot people. And sometimes I want that happy place to show ppl who look like me.

Don’t knock escapism representation y’all.

Ppl are asking if it’s ok for white ppl to reblog

Answer: yes.

Would rather y’all reblog than speak over .

i legitimately and in all seriousness think harold and kumar go to white castle is a revolutionary film expressly because its a mediocre stoner film that happens to star two asian dudes

we deserve to have mediocre stoner films as much as the next group

Tbh Harold and Kumar is about two Asian bro’s fighting simultaneously against white toxic masculinity stereotypes and also a commentary on the problematic nature of model minority culture in America under the guise of just like…really loving weed, man.

Also launched the careers of two men who wouldn’t have gotten callbacks otherwise (not to mention Kal’s political activism !) So like…yeah.

Comedy —GOOD COMEDY—is subversive !

Also just,, POC still have everyday lives you know?? We can still do shit that doesn’t always involve fighting racism. When you only portray the struggles of POC you fall into the “one narrative” trap and leave all other types of stories for white people. Representation won’t be good enough until we have it in all genres.

Yep. Stories of BIPOC joy are just as important as stories of BIPOC pain.

When you restrict media about BIPOC to just bad/heavy stuff, you say that only White people are capable of feeling the full spectrum of emotions, and that’s both BS and racist.

Crazy Rich Asians is funny and cute, but it also explores very real/painful topics. And in the end, it is also an amazing Cinderella story.

Look at this raw ass line! Look at it! She beats the matriarch at mahjong and then tells her that no one else will ever be as good as her, and she comes from practically nothing. God. I love this movie.

In addition, look at this badass:

image

You can’t tell me this is a fluff movie. You can’t write this movie off like that. Not when this quote exists.

Also: look at this! One of the first scenes in the movie.

image

Right out the gate, the matriarch is disrespected and puts someone in their place.

Also, I enjoy that this stereotypical quote is flipped:

image

And we all need more Peik Lin in our lives:

image

I feel like this movie gets written off for being:

1. A comedy

2. A romantic comedy

3. About Asian people

It’s so much more.

when i was a teenager it felt very revolutionary to be cruel to myself. like some kind of slow passive protest against how much everything hurt. i starved myself of sleep and food and tenderness because it felt right. it felt sharp and angry and radical and i wanted to be those things. adulthood is the realisation that the world is already working to cut into you well before you learn how to do it yourself. caring for yourself and others is the real protest

Soup

Hot hot soup

fuck if it’s this easy why do they close the goddamn road for like five months shit

all outta soub :(

I work for the road crew in the summer. Crack sealing (the process you see above) is fairly quick and simple. (Though holding a hose that pumps literal tons of 350F tar into the road in the middle of the summer is NOT easy)

I think what a lot of people underestimate is just how much road there is in your city. And just how many directions the crew gets pulled.

For our city of around 50k people there are 8 of us.

Also, crack sealing is a wholly temporary measure, meant to slow the break-up of the roads, it’s not a permanent fix.

Roads tend to get closed for months on end because we have to tear the whole thing up, then, depending on the class of road, we either have to hammer-drill into concrete to lay rebar and the pour concrete, or we can get straight to paving. If it’s a road requiring concrete we’re required to wait at least 24 hours for it to set.

So after 2 days we’re finally able to pave. But the city allocates one (two if we’re lucky) 5 ton truck to transport material.

A relatively short paving job requires at a minimum of 60 tons. So that’s 12 trips to the asphalt factory and back. Each ton is around $80.

TL;DR

There’s a lot of road, not many of us, and soup is expensive.

Leave the soup men alone.

Leave the soup men alone, and go vote for people who will pay for more soup and more soup people
